Kentucky Derby Style
There’s something magical about dressing for a special occasion — especially when there’s a theme involved. From black-tie galas to destination celebrations, themed dinner parties to iconic events like the Kentucky Derby, these are the moments when personal style can truly shine. And for many of my clients, these events bring both excitement and a little bit of pressure: What do I wear? How do I make it feel like “me”? Where do I even start?
That’s where I come in.
Recently, I had the pleasure of styling one of my clients for the Kentucky Derby — a weekend known not just for the races, but for its fashion. Think festive, elevated, and full of personality. For women, it’s all about the perfect dress, standout accessories, and of course, the right hat or fascinator. For men, it’s about sharp tailoring, thoughtful details, and a nod to southern charm.
How I Help My Clients Get Derby (or Gala or Getaway) Ready
Every event has a unique vibe, and I tailor the styling process to reflect that — while making sure it still feels authentic to the client. Here’s what that looks like:
1. A Style Consultation with Purpose
We start with a conversation about the event — location, formality, theme, and logistics — and how my client wants to feel when she walks in. Confident? Polished? Playful? Elegant? We identify the vibe first, and the wardrobe follows.
2. Sourcing the Perfect Pieces
From there, I get to work finding the right looks — whether that means pulling from high-end boutiques, trusted designers, or favorite department stores. For themed events, like the Derby, I’m extra mindful of accessories and statement pieces that bring the whole look together.
3. Fittings Made Simple
I bring everything to the client so she can try things on in the comfort of her home. We fine-tune the details — shoes, jewelry, handbags, — to make sure the outfit doesn’t just fit, but feels incredible.
4. A Lookbook to Go
After the fitting, I create a digital lookbook that shows how to wear the outfit (and how to rewear pieces for future events). It’s all about making the investment feel intentional and versatile.
Whether it’s the Kentucky Derby, a formal charity event, a milestone birthday, or a destination wedding, I love helping my clients step into these moments feeling elevated and completely themselves.
Because at the end of the day, it's not just about what you wear — it's about how you feel in it.
